Psychoneuroimmunology: the study of the interactions among behavioural, neuroendocrine and immunological processes. Interactions between psychological processes and the nervous and immune systems. Congregate at the site of injury or infection. Lymphocytes have very specific receptors for one antigen. Once activated they divide to create a proliferative response. Helper t (th) cells enhance functioning of tc cells, b cells and macrophages. Studying distribution of immune cells in blood samples. Assessing the functioning of cells include examining: If the body produces antibodies to inactive viruses it is a sign the immune system is not working well. The body should produce enough antibody to the vaccine. Stress involving threat to self can increase proinflammatory cytokine activity. Relaxation and massage may mute stress and prevent immunocompromise. Began in central africa in the 70s. By 2006 there were 20k cases and 60k with hiv in canada. Hiv has declined by 19% globally in the past decade. Grows rapicly and spread over first few weeks.
