Canadian health care system: publically funded health insurance program, prescription drugs are not part of system (60% is out of pocket, role of provinces and territories: decided what is medically necessary and what to fund. Treatment seeking: not everyone that goes to the doctor is sick, mass psychogenic illness: event that makes person become sick and creates chain reaction of illness, factors of: emotional distress, normal physical sensations/symptoms are amplified/overthinked, modelling. Recognizing and interpreting symptoms: need to first recognize symptoms as sign of illness, we are aware of things going on in our body - but are not accurate in perceptions, causes other things (social, psychological) to have impact. Focus: medical students disease: 2/3 students come to conclusion they have contracted disease they studied: stress: report more symptoms under stress (believe you are more vulnerable to illness)/ can increase symptoms of other illnesses. Idea about the illness - can be accurate or not.
