2 types of stress: physical: bodily, psychological: feeling unequipped at dealing with situations. Stressor is something in the environment that someone perceives as being threatening or harmful ie , final exams, ex boyfriends, etc. Strain: psyc and physiological response to something - your heart may pick uo, could get headache, etc Person has some control over what is going on with themselves. When transactions lead a person to perceive a discrepancy between the physical or psyc demands of a situation. Can be real or fake discrepancy: ie of real: walk into class and we are told there will be a pop quiz, there is discrepancy between skills and stressor. Even if someone is up to date of the class, they still may feel stressed: this is the perception of a discrepancy. The mental process people use in assessing: whether a demand is threatening or not and what resources are available to meet that demand.
