Provides that show empathetic & caring behaviours judged to be more competent & nicer. Cool, aloof behaviours judged to be less competent & less nice. In reality, technical quality & manner of care unrelated. Patient consumerism: patients have desire to be involved in decisions that affect their health, important in influencing patient-provider interactions. Canadians increasingly adopting consumerist view toward health care. Canadians becoming more proactive in maintaining their health. Relevance to lifestyle changes: to convince patient to follow treatment plan requires patient"s cooperation, giving patient a role in development of plan will help ensure commitment to that plan.
