Age changes negative emotions: express anger, fear, more complex emotions such as shame, guilt. If mom shows a scared face to the baby they won"t cross the cliff. If they realize the dot in actually on them and not on the mirror, they have a sense of self. Expressing emotions can be encouraged or discouraged depending on reactions of others. By 3 months: can discriminate happy from sad faces.
