Document Summary
Dual income households: family structure, more women in the paid workforce, more daycare, less leisure time, different discipline practices (much less acceptable to spank) Can be categorized along 2 dimensions: warmth/responsiveness, demandingness, brick wall (authoritarian) High in demandingness, low in warmth: backbone (authoritative) Children are more likely to become socially confident. High in demandingness and high in warmth: jellyfish (permissive) Little control in the behaviour, trouble following rules. Don"t let kids do something without parents help. Causes kids to have bad coping skills because they don"t know how to deal with coping, parents usually solve problems for them. As soon as the younger one can fight back (18-24 months) If siblings have a negative relationship, often failed to resolve conflict. Can be really close to siblings, but the closer you are in age, usually the more the conflict: siblings as caregivers. The more securely attached the older kid is, the more likely it is they will act as caregivers.
