Lecture 15 – PSYC 2600 C 03/25/2013 Eisenberger et. al. Method: Showed them images as well as made them feel physical pain; as well as made them play  video games (where they had to cooperate with other people; they could be rejected from the game).  They induced physical and social pain with this. They took MRI observations to test the hypothesis. Results: Hypothesis was proven. Physical and social pain have use similar neural circuitry.  Reason: it is beneficial to be socially accepted (and detrimental to be excluded), so this could be an  adaptive measure.
