Space-based visual attention: orients processing to locations i. Direction of visual attention can be separated from direction of gaze. There are two types of visual attention: endogenous: intentional internal control, exogenous: attentional movements caused by external stimuli. ii. Object-based visual attention: orients processing to objects i. ii. iii. Within object processing is more efficient than across object processing. Object based attention is useful because the major goal of vision is to identify objects. Lavie & driver: line study: showed people different lines. Yerkes-dodson law: performance is optimised with moderate arousal.
