For the israelites, the god of abraham is referred to an entirely formless transcendent, even the name is formless. In general, jews do not pronounce the name of god. Unnameable, when you give a name to concept, thing, idea, it has limits. The unnameable has no limits, it cannot be entirely encompassed within the range of language. Also in this culture there were highly developed cults of the dead, strong beliefs in spirits or ghosts of ancestors who could harm a person, who could be pleased with offerings, however these ideas were rejected. Finally, in a moral universe, that"s overseen by a just god, then there must be time and place for god"s justice to unfold. This became more urgent during the events of persecution and chaos etc. This kind of thinking was very important for the world"s view of early christians.
