Guest lecturer: dr. roy hanes - march 21 - lecture 10. There is evidence of people with disabilities on ancient egypt scripture. Aristotle once wanted a law that would kill all deformed children and infanticide happened for kids with disabilities (learning and physical) In the 16th century, it was suggested that people with intellectual disabilities were connected to satan and that they should be drowned. Late 16th century the care of the disabled switched from the families to the government. The state of the places where the disabled went were dismal. In the 19th century people decided to put people with disabilities into large institutions. The people who were sent there did not get education. The place acted like an asylum and the people were more like prisoners. In 1883, an english man introduced the term eugenics. Eugenics described a concept of improving humanity"s stock.
