SOWK 2001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Health Canada, Commodification, Masking Tape
Document Summary
Widens the consideration of behavioral interventions beyond the child, family and worker and into the social structure itself: children need routine and structure that is imposed by adults. Children fables (stories such as the boy who cried wolf, the old women who lived in a shoe etc. ) reinforce the recklessness, vulnerability and ignorance that children have in their lives. Children who fail in school are lazy, stupid, or both. Children who fail in school usually have inadequate structural support (live in persistent poverty). It prompts children to be aggressive towards others, particularly those younger/weaker than themselves. Children are not ready to learn until four years of age when they start school. Children acquire language and make cognitive connections from birth. The most critical period for learning is the first three years of life.
