People that help the researchers do the research. It"s easier for agencies to work with you. Expert knowledge; doesn"t mean it"s always right. We know things because that"s how it"s been done. Taking past experiences and learning from it. No experience but somehow you kind of know. Someone has done a study that proves that something is true. Definition: systems of knowledge that guide how we think and act; the way we think about the world that shaped our lives. Imbedded in the socialization of adherents and practitioners (often times people don"t even realize they are acting in a certain paradigm because it"s all we know) Catholic church was chief source of knowledge. Key assumption: passive observation of natural phenomena (no actual research, just look at stuff and assume it"s right: positivism (modernist or empiricist) Began in europe during the industrial revolution. Key assumption: any variable that cannot be measured has no place in science.
