SOWK 2501 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Audit Trail, Grounded Theory, Scale-Invariant Feature Transform
Document Summary
To sift and sort the words collected from research participants in such a way that patterns related to the research question can be derived. To identify similarities and differences presented by individuals and the possible links between them. The analysis of qualitative data differs from the analysis of quantitative data in 5 areas: Distinction among data collection, data organizing, and data analysis. Inductive (starting from the bottom) versus deductive (starting with an overall idea and moving down) reasoning. Do not ignore uniqueness of the data. Decide how to transcribe spoken or written data into a usable form. Decide what rules will be used to fit pieces of data together in a meaningful way. Tacit theory: that"s just how things go; it makes sense. Explicit theory: analyze with a purpose; a specific purpose. Use a research journal to provide an audit trail.
