Social inequality: resources (economic, social and political) are unequally distributed in society, this unequal distribution endures and changes over time. Social stratification: historically enduring patterns/layers of inequality or, institutionalized system of social inequality. Stratification categories through which a society is divided and ranked: wealth net worth. Real estate accounts for 49% of canadians net worth. Open systems movement up and down layers/strata: based on achievement, allow movement and interaction between layers and classes. Social mobility - the movement of individuals, families, households, or other categories of people within or between social strata in a society. It is a change in social status relative to others" social location within a given society: changing positions/strata within a stratification system.
