Effects on children: a third of divorces, children actually benefit because it reduces exposure to conflicts, in 70% of divorces, parents engaged in low level conflict(arguing); it is harder on children. What is meant by a poor man"s divorce": an informal separation, because lower-income families cannot afford divorce, a legal separation is when a lawyer is involved and separated. Men and women desert spouses and/or children for different reasons. Decrease in divorces because increase of cohabitation.
