Sociology of the family, lecture 3 january 20, 2014. Role overload having too much to do in a given amount of time. Public sector in the economy refers to the federal, provincial and municipal government. Not for profit organizations, education and health care. Women are twice as likely to do more housework even though they work outside the household. The roles are still gender specific even though women are in the work force. Work devote more hours during the week to non-work tasks, such as taking care of child, family, etc. Cannot balance the life of family demands, marital frustrations, heavy stress loads, etc. Shiftwork have an extra amount of stress just working on that: the emotional and physical stress. Employees who have children and/or elderly responsibilities have the most levels of work to life conflict. Some impacts of a high overload: less committed to their job or organization.
