An s we rs : oil to gas in a gas station has an overall efficiency of 80%. In comparison, the overall efficiency of coal to deliver electricity in an ecar is at about 25%, and from that the net vehicle efficiency is at about 65%. Therefore, the oil to gas has a much higher efficiency compared to the ecar: to refine oil into gasoline 3 processes have to happen. First process is distillation , which applies heat to separate petroleum into different products based on their boiling temperatures. Second process is conversion , where chemicals/pressure is added to change the chemical make up to change petroleum into gasoline. Blending process , and it"s when they make the product have certain characteristics.
