Pierre bourdieu: economic, social and cultural capital, cultural capital has 3 forms. There are ways of talking, walking and forms of language that can and are inherited. Culture is shared/collective and disputed: no such thi(cid:374)g as a (cid:272)ulture of (cid:858)o(cid:374)e(cid:859, cultural meanings/values are contested. Open to challenges, different points of view: disagreement/conflict. Symbols are culturally created: ex: maple leaf, etc. Communicate meaning: ex: national symbol, stop signs, crucifix. Emile durkheim collective representations: every cultural group is symbolically constructed through shared symbols. Boundary maintenance in group and out group: inclusive: sense of identity and community, exclusive: non-representative. Struggle/conflict about the meaning and significance of particular symbols.
