The child protection service is based on risk assessment. Lecture 11 : risk is culture specific, youth need wintery slopes to climb because risk is a part of life. That is how people learn to manage risk. Risk: certain adults deem certain activities risky. It can be close to the child or proximal: distal is like the mental health of a caregiver, no one assesses risk in the same way. Microsystem risk factors: birth weight, developmental delays. Insecure attachment: child/caregiver issues, tempers, isolation, addictions, child/(cid:272)aregi(cid:448)er"s i(cid:373)(cid:373)ediate e(cid:374)(cid:448)iro(cid:374)(cid:373)e(cid:374)t. Mesosystem risk factors: peer group, neighborhood, school, sports, health facilities, support for children. Macrosystem risk factors: poverty, childism, racism, sexism, heterosexism, violence. Balancing all of these things will help to balance out the child. Endurance or ability to spring back when faced with adversity, to cope with life. Patterns of problem solving - some say it develops from overcoming risks and setbacks. Risk management is a business term loaded with bias.
