Back then prison was mixed so women were incarcerated with men, around. 1917 women became prison guards and supervised women. Our home is for fallen women: emergence of the toronto industrial refuge. Magdalene homes: created by upper class scottish women to give prostitutes an alternative to prisons: provided institutional care and rehabilitations. Prostitutes were seen as the fallen women and needed more punishment then the male clients and male prostitutes.
