51% of canadian women have experienced at least one instance of secual or physical violence in their lifetime. 1/17 canadian women is raped at some point in her life. 70% of rapes are committed by someone who is known to the victim. Issue with calling it a women"s issue it implies that it doesn"t happen to men. Idea that there is no causality- it just happens. Idea that women of colour are more sexually available. Prerequisite of masculinity- must be aggressive, treating anyone who identifies as a woman a certain way. Teaching young boys that they must be aggressive. Combined with cultural prerequisite that feminity is submissive behaviour. Intersectionality affecting those who are impacted by violence. Music about hoes and bitches and men having control over the women. Blurred lines- huge controversy over the lyrics and rape culture. The way violence is framed in culture that outlines our thoughts around violence against women.
