Once he fell in love w/ blond-haired, blue-eyed jane, tried to became a civilized person: excellent table manners, white suits. Always seemed like a loaded gun ready to go off. End of book: no jane, no wealth. Dependent on others (not acceptable for white men) Highly contested, raises slew of difficult questions for us. What do we mean when we use the term crisis : crisis = state if fear, anxiety, frustration, & anger that men feel of perceived loss of masculinity in institutions. Pendulum has swung too far opposite & now men are more discriminated than women (by the law, social structures, etc. ) Think we"ve gone too far, so we have to go back. Should we do anything about crisis: how to prevent alienating, #s were enough to show institutional discrimination, opportunity for men to refashion masculinity. What are the implications of crisis for women & men & society at large: economic influence, social, legal, financial, etc.
