Week 4: sept 29 - producing and regulating gender . Youth hood brings the idea of irrationality with it. There is an idea that youth are dangerous. Social media is not really understood by the adult world and they want to control it and the youth who use it. Girls are framed as in crisis, but not in the same way as boys are. Girls are actually thought to benefit from the new economy and structures. Work is more service work and there is an idea that schools are more and more feminized than they used to be. Even though girls may be doing better in school, they are still making less money than boys in the work force. Girls weren"t studied until the 1980s, and they weren"t really seen because they were confined to the domestic space, but once they start participating publicly, they began to be studied. A girl"s bedroom is a place where femininity is cultivated.
