Agriculture: mode of production that involves growing crops with the use of plowing, irrigation and fertilizer. The goal is to obtain food (or cash in order to buy food) in order to obtain the necessities of life. As most of the other classmates have explained, subsistence farming is a form of farming whose products are intended to provide basic needs for the farmers and their families. This type of farming is simply to ensure that everyone"s needs are being met rather than turning a profit. In the present day, with the advancement of technology and the industrialisation of societies, this type of farming is fast disappearing. These effects are due to the corporate farms and agricultural enterprises that come along with industrial agriculture (miller, et al. , 2010, p. 80). This industrialisation of food production completely changes the relationship between people and their environment and also takes away food"s original function (feeding people).
