Document Summary

Early adulthood is between the ages of 18 to 40. Emerging adulthood takes place between the ages of 18 to 25. Experimentation and exploration characterize the emerging adult: emerging adults are most often concerned with. Arnett (2006) describes five features of emerging adulthood. The transition into adulthood is taking longer than it used to: greater requirement for education and skill development, the pursuit of additional degrees of higher information, rising cost of living and housing. Postsecondary students report greater feelings of stress, pressure and depression. Professional circumstances such as the pressure to succeed, find a job and make money impact the health of young adults. Personal circumstances such as intimate relationships, parental conflict, finances, expectations and roommates can cause stress. Most people reach peak physical performance below age 30 (between ages of 19-26) After reaching this peak we experience physical decline. Muscle tone and strength begin to decline around age 30. A decline in physical abilities is often noticed.
