Document Summary

Your clients know the answer to their problems, no matter how much you don"t think they do. Sometimes your clients may attack you if they disagree with what you are doing. If you find your behaviors are not consistent with your ideas (and the client is right in attacking you) ask yourself if there is a distinction between your espoused theory and your theory in use. If you think there is a difference, assess it the client may be right in noticing a distinction between what you"re doing and what you say you want to do. Your aim should be to assist and facilitate, not to diagnose. Don"t become sucked into power relations focus on your principles and what you are setting out to do (helping people help themselves). It is easy to be coerced into believing a certain side, which is why it is necessary to forgo any biases.
