Argued that at any one point in the group, there is some level of work going on with an hint of one or another of these emotional modes. Believed that our early childhood experiences had a marked impact upon our understandings and behaviors in adulthood. The individuals fear that their identity is challenged or erased by way of group norms or strong group members: it is a concern that they may be overwhelmed by the other.
