Utility program: small program that performs many of the general housekeeping taks for the computer such as system maintenance and file compression. Types of operating systems: are categorized by the type of device in which they are installed. Real-time operating system ( rtos) are necessary in machinery that is required to perform a repetitive series of specific tasks in an exact amount of time. Rtos( or embedded systems) require minimal user interaction. It is a program with a specific purpose such as performing regimented tasks, or recording precise results. Multiuser operating system ( network os) enables more than one user to access the computer system at one time.
