Racoco was an artisitic movement that was a reaction to the grandeur, symmetry of baroque works. All this is during the 18th c: have the dancing milkmaids and the pilgrimage to cythera. It is a broad term for anything that is not baroque. The first person to apply this term, to adapt it, to use it for hellenistic sculpture ws the austrian. Wilhelm klein, 1850-1924. wrote the vom antiken rokoko, 1921. It is the basis for what we know rococo as. 1st one was dyonisian figures, the 2nd was decorative figures of women, 3rd: figures of children, and the last was neo-classical or archaizing relief. The categories were later expanded for figures of animals, dwarfs, peasants, grotesques, actors and figures from daily life. When it comes to rococo presently, anything that is decorative, playful or erotic is considered to be rococo.
