Document Summary

Before philips death, he was preparing for an invasion of persia. Alexander began campaigns against persia in 334 bc. In 332, alexander made his way to egypt: when he made it, almost immediately named king. One reason is that persia rule was so hated that they were happy to look to alexander: while in egypt, alexander founded alexandria. Founding cities in the hellenistic age becomes very popular. Its also something that his father did: they found cities due to a connection to victory. They also did it to establish power bases in these regions. Like the city of alexandria, they were populated by greeks: when he was there, he made a voyage to siwah. Once he arrived, he was greeted as the son of zeus ammon. He is promoted to the level of a god. After he left egypt, he went further east into bactria, and traveled all the way to the indus valley.
