Document Summary

Thursday, september 10, 2015. Introduction and basic principles. Closed and open systems. Properties of a system. In this course we will be using the mlt system of units. Everything that we use can be broken down into into this system. Reynolds number = v*l/d (d is viscosity) This cancels out in our mlt system, it is therefore unitless. Apart from this system we will be using s. i units. 1 kpa = 10^3 pa. 1 mpa = 10^6 pa. A system is something defined in this universe. You chose your system based on what you are interested in. A boundary defines what is inside a system. *a system is not defined by its boundaries, the boundaries can move! Closed and opened systems. Heat or energy can pass through the systems boundaries but mass cannot. Both heat/energy and mass can pass through the boundaries. Characteristics of a system. These properties can differ depending on what your system is.
