In the bicycle thief the bike begins as something very instrumental but becomes very metaphorical towards the end. Leather jacket & harley davidson, what do you think of: counter-culture, rebel, anti-establishment, sexual revolution. Cultural lighting; lee wanted the film"s lighting and visual design to have afrocentric bright colours. Hollywood"s lighting always lit to the benefit of white skin. Think about how the films mise en scene is theatrical and sometimes naturalist! Fire hydrant; something that was used to cool off in the beginning was ultimately used against them in the end. Wall of photos; not an easy resolution, leads to ask lots of relevant question.
