After the fall of the roman empire, europe were divised into small areas (apart from each other). Small cities that were in key geographic location (key ocean port e. g. ) Merchants were on the edges of these cities. There was a principal wall and the merchants were behind the second walls (feudal protection)(city walls) Feudal gave up a certain autonomy for the merchants. And this kind of accumulutaion require rationality and calculation. Disputes between merchants were resolved by a legal system ( set of rules with punishment ) Cities became a place where you have city charts (charts**) (rules to follow) Cities became places in where people could escape feudal government. Its a place where people"s mind become more free.
