Building explanations trying to come up with the best possible explanation (or theory) so that we can collect data and make educated decisions. Research on online surveys there are two types of non response: passive-non-response (i just forgot, active non-response (someone who looked at the invitation to do the online survey and decided not to do it). This was linked to: satisfaction with the experience that they were asked about. All the people that really liked it and really disliked it filled out the survey. The people in the middle didn"t do it. Variables are important: change and difference and variation draw our attention (example with the canoe on the water) Independent: the causal variable. dependent, something that changes in response to the independent variable (aka the effect or the outcome variable). It"s the main issue that were observing or trying to achieve. Mediating/intervening variable: an explanation of a causal chain.
