The idea of tradition is an act of communication. Tradition as a concept is an act of transmission. These acts of communication and transmission are related to time but it is not time that de nes what is tradition. New tradition state their claim in pastness. Traditio: is the act of handing off the ideas in tradition that is the creating of tradition and not the laps of time. (need to be contextual) No it makes for a re ection of an existing tradition. Cannon res on the british isles during wwi: why they would wait 3 seconds between each res? when asked, no one knew. Network of tradition: constant exchange with a particular audience. Received set of knowledge that is past down. Tradition can"t really exist if they don"t come in contact with other traditions. This other tradition becomes essential to the tradition. (relationship) Memory is a key point of identity.
