RELI 216 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Jesus Movement, Polytheism, Interfaith Dialogue
Document Summary
After reading and watching the ressources of this week"s lesson, i learned about john paul ii and his efforts in the reconciliation between christians and jews. I learned more about vision changes in the 20th century and the exploration of connections between christians and jews and the beginning of dialogue instead of conflicts. Indeed, in the lesson 6. 4, dr. joseph explains that the holocaust had a profound impact and an awakening in christianity to start the effort of reconciliation (joseph, 2005). On the other hand, i found it surprising to see that this reconciliation did not happen long before. It is clear that the three religions have a lot in common but that their history demonstrates something other than harmony and respect. Bryant: rather than centuries of shared understanding, we see a history of hostility, antagonism, ignorance, and appalling misunderstanding (bryant, 2007).
