SOEN 228 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Memory Address Register, Memory Buffer Register, Instruction Register
Document Summary
These review notes are not intended to replace your own note taking. Writing your own notes in your own words is a valuable learning tool and is also often required at the workplace (where it is called documentation). In addition, writing notes often helps both the learning process and the duration that material stays in memory. Think of note taking as early exam preparation. In the previous review set we introduced the concept of addressing modes. The processor can access data either in memory or within a register using different modes. A mode in this case is effectively the method that is used to accomplish the task. I will use a (cid:862)made up(cid:863) instruction move source, destination operation that will move the contents of the source location into the destination. Immediate mode: the instruction that is loaded into the instruction register contains within it the data required to perform the operation.
