Meninges: dura mater, periosteal, meningeal, superior sagittal sinus - drain venus blood. Arachnoid layer projects into: arachnoid, subarachnoid space-cerebral fluid, pia mater, highly vascularised. Parts: cerebrum, cortex-wrinkly, basil ganglia/nuclei, diencephalon, thalamus, hypothalamus, cerebellum, posterior and inferior cerebellum, motor control, brain stem, medulla-continuous with cord, pons-bridge, mid-brain. Medulla: cranial nerves= pns, ascending and descending tracts, cluster of nuclei - cardiovascular center. Control heart rate, blood pressure: respiratory center. Pyramidal decussation (why left side of brain is controlling right side of body: cranial nerve nuclei - leave brain stem to for cranial nerve. 3rd to 4th connected by aqueduct around fluid. Motor control in automated subconscious actions (walking +) Thalamus: connects all sensory before going to cortex, main synaptic relay structure, attached to cerebellum and basal ganglia. Hypothalamus: involuntary system, smooth muscle (no control) Indirect and direct through pituitary gland: regulation of emotion, learning, behaviour.
