Before socrates philosophy was of the natural variety, like natural science. Socrates was interested in human things: how to live, human virtue, etc. A human being, in socrates view, is essentially and fundamentally, the soul. The unexamined life is not a life worth living . Introduces distinction between our biological and logical selves. Philosophy explored/taught through one on one examination and scrutiny of ones innermost beliefs. Held above all things the delphic proverb: know thyself , taking it to mean not only the obvious self awareness and knowledge, but also the idea of taking care of, investigating, and thinking about the self. He had a spiritual internal voice that guided his life,telling him what not to do. I know that i don"t know anything . If you think you know than you have no desire to learn anything. The above self awareness being a possible example of socratic irony; can we take.
