Planetary Geology Solar system- sun eight planets and satellites, asteroids, comets, meteorites. Planes of seven planes lie within 3 degrees of suns equator, mercury is seven. Terrestrial= close to earth, Jovial = mostly gas (huge!). Metallization of hydrogen at such huge pressures. Most primitive meteorites = condrites. 4.6 billion years oldThese crystalize to make achondrites Differentiated achondtrites moonmars earth Moon- diameter of 3475 kilometers. Large compared to its parent planet, densty 3300 kg/m^3. 1/6 gravity of earth. No atmosphere. Tectonics no longer active. Surface constantly bomarded with micrometerorites. Maria- dark regions, fairly smooth lowlands, originated from asteroid impacts and lava flooding the surface. Lunar highlands are bright, lots of impact craters, older than Maria, made of anorthosite. Mercury- smallest planet, not atmosphere, smooth plains, revolves quickly rotates slowly. Venus- second to the moon in brilliance. Similar to Earth in Size, Density, Location in the solar system. Atmosphere 97% CO2. 80% of surface is plains, but mantled by volvanic flow. Low density impact craters, crust has been resurfa
