Ending your paragraph with a period and a space. 1- topic sentence: writing has a topic and a point that it is making that controlling idea is usually central to your thesis statement in an essay. *a controlling idea is what directs your argument, without it, a topic might just be a word or concept. 2- try to include three sub-points to support each main point in a long essay or expository paragraph.
