GEOG 1030 Lecture 1: INTRODUCTION TO GEOGRPAHY
Document Summary
Geographers taking into account both spatial considerations (related to physical space) and temporal conditions (related to changes with the passage of time). Study of features of earths living and non-living systems. Landscapes, the natural processes that form them, and origins of the planet. Physical geographers help refine and quantify our knowledge about the earth, especially its surface and system. o. Examines the earth in terms of four major systems. Atmosphere - composed of gases that envelop and protect the planet from harmful solar radiation. Hydrosphere - includes all the water, in all its forms, including the oceans, surface waters of the lands, ground water, water held in the atmosphere, and precipitation. Lithosphere - the structural rock foundation of the planet"s surface. Biosphere - represents the earths living planets and organisms, which use the hydrosphere for moisture, the atmosphere for life-supporting gases, and the lithosphere for nutrients.
