World leaders came together in ny in 2000 and created the mdgs. Critiqued as it only served to legitimize capitalist globalization. Also critiqued for a narrow definition of poverty. Therefore the poverty line was raised to a day and the amount of people living in poverty at this new measurement sky- rocketed. It is my aspiration that health will finally be seen not as a blessing to be wished for, but as a human right to be fought for - kofi anan, 2002. Potentially one of the most powerful instruments for improving global health and addressing its underlying determinants is the health and human rights framework.
