Document Summary

Ecology- the study of how organisms interact with one another and with their nonliving environment. Population- is a group of interacting individuals of the same species occupying a specific area. Community- also known as a biological community, consists of all the populations of the different species living and interacting in an area. Ecosystem- a community of different species interacting with one another and with their physical environment of matter and energy. Troposphere- the thin inner layer extends about 17 km above sea level. It contains most of the planet"s air, mostly nitrogen and oxygen. Stratosphere- the next layer stretching 17-48 km above the earth"s surface. Its lower portion contains enough ozone to filter out most of the sun"s harmful ultraviolet radiation. This allows life to exist on land and in the surface layers of bodies of water. It is found as liquid water, ice and water vapor in the atmosphere.
