INTD 1102 Lecture 9: Indian School Road - Benjamin
Document Summary
Wrote the book called indian school road. Meant to remember the legacy of the shubenacadie residential school. Interest as a journalist as well as an advocate for equality. The school started because of indigenous being bullied and sent home by the principle. This was an act of racism so a mother pulled her children out of school and began to home school them. Other parents took interest in this and the school continued in a church basement. The history of a school such as shubenacadie because his ancestors created it. There was a political cartoon made which accurately depicted what the school was actually like. Looks like a regular school from the outside but really more like a prison. Children could be sent to this school based on even the most obscure reasons (home not clean enough, thought to not be taken care of by parents) This was determined through a representative of the british run government (old, white guy)
