NURS 2050 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: T Helper Cell, Cytotoxic T Cell, Antigen-Presenting Cell
Document Summary
Immunity that an organism develops during a lifetime. Involves the activity of lymphocytes (are in the lymph nodes, spleen etc. ) Lymphocyte b : memory b cells, plasma b cells. Lymphocyte t : cd4 helper t cells, cd8 cytotoxic t cells specific killer, natural killer t cells target (cid:272)a(cid:374)(cid:272)er (cid:272)ells, do(cid:374)"t (cid:374)eed to re(cid:272)og(cid:374)ize the a(cid:374)tige(cid:374) Binds to target, delivers toxins (lymphokines) to poke holes in the membrane, and cleaves the protein, to initiate apoptosis. If it does(cid:374)"t look right, the(cid:455) will destro(cid:455) it. Lot"s of (cid:373)a(cid:272)rophages (cid:373)ea(cid:374) monocytes are macrophages in the blood, in tissue it becomes a macrophage. Ability to distinguish between the self vs nonself. Major histocompatibility complex = mhc i receptor on the cell. Then it will travel to the b or t cell through lymphatic vessels and present it to the b and t cell. Cytotoxic t cell (cd8) needs to see an epitope on a mhci, responds to mhci only.
