If your working with a population where there are not a lot of subjects, you might want to work with within subjects design. There is accost doing between, the sot that you need a lot of. Within subjects: if you want to study a subject over time. You cant apply all the levels of one factor to another. Ex: there are two dimensions, one is spatial and the other is subjects temporal. Spatial: there is a different location that is not replicates on the other level of the variable. Temporal: it is not at the same time. You should avoid nested designs, only go with it when you really need it. Within: small n, each subject has its own control.
