PSYO 2470 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Radial Arm Maze, Morris Water Navigation Task, Spatial Memory
Document Summary
Supports spatial memory of location of objects of behavioral importance. Treats are placed on each arm (or sometimes on few arms) and then the researches let the mouse wonder to get the treats. Control mice did not visit the arms where they had just gotten a treat from, while the hippocampus-removed mice would go back to arms that they were just on. This means that hippocampus plays a role in spatial memory. It can also be tested by the morris water maze. But, in another group of mice, the researches removed the mice after learning where the platform is and they mice still found the platform with ease (like hm case). Meaning that the hippocampus plays an important role with new memories but does not affect old ones if damaged or removed. After the training, researches introduced an ndma antagonist. They showed that the higher the ndma antagonist dose the worse the performance even after training.
