PSYO 2160 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Eye Contact, Stanley Coren
Document Summary
If you are approaching a nervous dog do not stick your hand out towards them (may make them aggressive) Dog aggression: do not lean over the dog, do not give them a hug, do not stare him in the eye, do not squeal or shout in his face, do not grab his head and kiss it. Injury, illness: when a dog is scared and aggressive the brow and the nose starts to curl. The ears stay down and the mouth is pulled back: when a dog is aggressive but not scared the ears stick straight up and only the front teeth are shown. If a dog licks its lips it is fearful/scared. If a dog looks to the side it is called wailing eye and is a sign that the dog may become aggressive. If a dog is really nervous it may yawn: when dogs are leaving a stressful experience they will shake it out.
