PSYO 2160 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Guppy, Dna Profiling, Eusociality
Document Summary
Mature faster than guppies from low predation sites. Smaller: guppies grow quickly but their maximum growth is much smaller than guppies upstream, babies only get so big because there is no benefit to getting bigger (still going to be able to eat) Instead of putting a lot of energy into a few offspring, they put energy into making a large amount so that chances are greater that some will survive. Low-predation sites(upstream: take longer to mature, predators are fewer and smaller than downstream predators, fewer but larger offspring. Larger than guppies from high predation site: so if guppies can get large enough they can outgrow the predator so it wont get eaten, figure 2. 14. You would assume to see very limited shoaling. Most fish hang out by themselves in the low predation site because they are bigger that the predator and there are less predators. In the high predation site has high levels of shoaling.
